We all know how hard it is to pick up a wedding gift for many its a big panic usually its always the same gifts being given which can get very boring for the poor Bride & Groom . So being that little bit different I guess Ive always like to think outside the box when it comes to gifts. I like my gift to mean something and thought be put into it and not just be a monetary value or just another possession added to the unwanted wedding gifts or the ” vile pile”.
So when a close friend of mine got hitched last year I decided I wanted to
give her a gift like no other. As I’ve always liked everything about the war era I decided my theme would be just that.
In a modern-day we tend to get lost in the gadgets of today like the digital ovens or coffee machines . Whereas years ago the women of that society took pride in the little touches to their kitchens & homes and everything was handmade or minimalistic so I found a shop that did just that unique , old-school , pretty and meaningful.
The shop itself is called Marie’s and is situated in Clane Co.Kildare it stocks everything from children’s toys, linen, furniture indoors & outdoors ,china,to homemade foods. A lot of the stock is wooden and handmade itself which is quite nice to see as today raw materials are scarce. You can find Marie’s of Clane on Facebook at http://m.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mariesstraffandesign.com%2F&h=lAQEuewcR&s=1 And also their website is http://www.straffanantiques.com/new_furniture.html
I picked out my piece which was called a
” Memory box ” and is wooden. The box itself holds a marriage certificate, photo frame, record book, photo album, love hearts and the Fab box itself to hold all your keepsakes from your special day.The box alone cost €80.00 that was a year ago so prices may have altered since then but your clearly are paying for the workmanship.
I felt the box itself wasn’t enough and wanted to add my own elements so I specifically choose other items to put with the box. I went with a theme of family because my friend has a stepson I wanted to include him in this box as they now would be a unit. So I made sure to keep the marriage and newly weds to it and choose pieces I felt were relevant to her as a person ! Little touches that she could put around her home rather than a box that would be hidden under a bed. This was my final product I merchandised it myself and asked the lady to wrap it for me ( I think she found me very controlling haha ) but I wanted it to look perfect ! And when you have a vision you gotta see it through .The whole gift cost €200.
So I had cupcake salt & pepper shakers, a silver and diamontè jewelery trinket with “Special friend” engraved on it, natural Manukau honey, candles, cupcake teapot & saucer, family photo album, clock, Little sayings she could hang around the house, and a bride & groom logo that in my idea( I thought would great hanging on a wall with collage of their wedding photos underneath, I also blew up a photo I took of the 3 of them on their wedding day as a little personal touch!
So there you have it. Bridal gifts don’t have to be boring or any gift for that matter you can adopt these ideas for house warmers, christenings, birthdays etc and the joy you get out of organizing them alone is great!
Here is some photos from the store itself & stock ..some great inspiration for your
